What is ECF?
The FCC's (Federal Communications Commission) Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF) is a $7.17 billion program that will help schools and libraries provide the tools and services their communities need for remote learning during the COVID-19 emergency period. ECF will help provide relief to millions of students, school staff, and library patrons and will help close the Homework Gap for students who currently lack necessary Internet access or the devices they need to connect to classrooms.
For eligible schools and libraries, the ECF Program will cover reasonable costs of laptop and tablet computers; Wi-Fi hotspots; modems; routers; and broadband connectivity purchases for off-campus use by students, school staff, and library patrons.
Congress authorized the Emergency Connectivity Fund as part of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.
Why ECF Matters
ECF dollars are allocated and given to schools without any expectation of payback or matching funds. Neosho School District has nearly $1 million available based on eligibility. This money would be used to replace student and staff devices, make network upgrades, provide connectivity, and many other services NSD provides; expenses typically paid for out of NSD funds.
Why YOUR Participation Matters
Neosho School District’s qualification relies on the responses of our staff, students, and parents. The survey is simple with two true or false questions. The responses will be what let’s the FCC know if we are truly an area of need. If we don’t receive the requisite amount of surveys required by the FCC, we will not receive the $1 million available to us to serve our students and team.
How you can Help
Please complete one survey per NSD student in your family. Surveys are two questions and are available online here or in a paper format. Paper forms will be sent home with all students in grades PreK-6th. If you cannot complete the online survey, please complete the paper survey and return them to your teacher.
