NSD is dedicated to monitor ELs in all their subject areas and place ELs in appropriate classes. For mathematics and science courses, students are placed in classes with highly qualified math and science teachers.  Students in these classes also receive support from ELD paraprofessionals when available. The ELD department provides professional development for classroom and elective teachers to gain an understanding of the unique needs of their ELs and practical strategies for language acquisition support in the classroom.  Again, all classrooms include Integrated ELD strategies and every teacher in the NSD is qualified to teach every type of learner, including English Language Learners.
